Ipswich Town Sign Ghana Winger Fatawu Issahaku From Leicester City
Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has completed his move to Ipswich Town from Leicester City, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at Portman Road until 2031.
Ipswich announced the arrival of the 22-year-old for an undisclosed fee, although reports suggest the deal is worth around £20 million.
The transfer sees Fatawu return to the Premier League after Leicester City’s relegation to League One last season, with Ipswich earning promotion back to England’s top flight.
Fatawu, who featured in all four of Ghana’s matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, arrives with valuable Premier League and European experience. Despite not starting a game at the tournament, he created the most chances for the Black Stars, highlighting his attacking influence.
The winger enjoyed a productive campaign with Leicester last season, contributing double figures in goals and assists while scoring nine goals in 44 appearances. He was also instrumental in Leicester’s Championship promotion in 2023/24 and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year.
“I am proud to have signed for Ipswich Town,” Fatawu said. “The ambition the club has is very exciting and I’m looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season.”
The Ghana international added that he was eager to connect with the supporters after facing Ipswich several times during his time in England.
Fatawu began his career with Steadfast in Tamale before joining Dreams FC, where his performances earned him a move to Sporting CP in Portugal. He later joined Leicester on loan before making his switch permanent.
Ipswich manager Gary O’Neil praised the winger’s qualities, describing him as a player with strong technical and physical attributes who can challenge defenders in one-on-one situations.
Having represented his country at the World Cup this summer, I know he is now looking forward to getting to work ahead of the Premier League season,” O’Neil said.
Fatawu will now link up with his new teammates during Ipswich’s pre-season preparations in Spain.
