Ghana head coach Otto Addo has reaffirmed his commitment to building a competitive and cohesive national team, with a focus on youth development and equal opportunity, as the Black Stars prepare for the 2025 Unity Cup in England.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Addo highlighted the importance of long-term team building, stressing that it is a gradual process requiring patience and strategic planning.

Team building is a process that takes time, and it’s not something that happens overnight,” Addo explained.

This is a great opportunity to give some of our young players a chance to prove themselves. Our aim is to create competition within the team, which can only be achieved by providing an equal platform for all our talents to showcase their skills.

The Unity Cup, which kicks off on Tuesday, May 27, will see Ghana face Nigeria in a highly anticipated match on Wednesday, May 28. The winner will progress to the final against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago on May 31.

Addo further noted that the tournament serves as a valuable testing ground to assess emerging players who could play pivotal roles in the team’s future.

We’re looking beyond individuals, and focusing on building a strong team, he said.

That’s why I’ve decided to give many of these young players a chance to play and prove themselves, with the aim of making them a key part of my team going forward.
