Dr. Koranteng Sees Benjamin Asare as Key to Ghana Premier League Growth
The Chief Executive of The Business Africa Consulting Group Limited (The BAC Group), Dr. Ernest Koranteng believes Benjamin Asare should remain in the Ghana Premier League, describing the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper as one of the players capable of transforming the league’s appeal after his impressive World Cup campaign.
The Black Stars goalkeeper has attracted transfer interest following his performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he made three appearances and became the first Ghanaian goalkeeper to keep back to back clean sheets at the tournament.
He featured in Ghana’s win over Panama and started against England and Croatia before missing the Round of 32 defeat to Colombia.
Rather than seeing the shot stopper leave, Dr. Koranteng wants local clubs to do everything possible to retain him.
“I wish Benjamin stays in the Premier League because he’s a big attraction,” he said. “I don’t wish for Benjamin to go anywhere else because the attention he’s grabbed impacts the Ghana Premier League.”
The Chief Executive also called on clubs to match offers from elsewhere if necessary to keep the goalkeeper in Ghana.
“I want the clubs to be able to pay him whatever it is anyone will pay him anywhere to lure him.”
Dr. Koranteng extended the same wish to other local Black Stars players, including Prince Osei and Salim Adams, insisting the domestic league should remain home to Ghana’s biggest football talents. “I want the Premier League to be the home of the stars as well,” he said. “That is what we want for the Ghana Premier League. It’s competitiveness, attraction, the investment, the resourcefulness.”
Asare enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, helping Hearts of Oak record 24 clean sheets in 34 league matches, with the goalkeeper contributing more than half of that tally.
His club form earned him a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad and has now made him one of the hottest properties ahead of the new Ghana Premier League season.
