The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has announced that the 2026 Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Executive Board elections remain on hold due to financial constraints, while assuring stakeholders that efforts are ongoing to complete the electoral process in a transparent and credible manner.

In a press release issued on July 1, 2026, the Committee explained that the elections, originally scheduled for June 4, 2026 at the Accra Sports Stadium, have been delayed because no funds have been released under either its original or extended mandate.

According to the Committee, the lack of funding has significantly affected its ability to complete its assigned responsibilities and conclude the election process.

The GBIMC disclosed that substantial progress has been made in the vetting of candidates. Most aspirants were given the opportunity to correct discrepancies in their nomination forms and resubmit the required documentation. The Vetting Committee is now focused on completing the process for the two remaining aspirants:
Alhaji Tofiki Murtala – Executive Member aspirant
Nathaniel Awuku Obeng – Treasurer aspirant

The Committee also revealed that it has received a number of petitions from stakeholders concerning the conduct of the elections. Among the issues under review is a petition regarding the number of gyms to be admitted onto the delegates’ list. This matter is linked to the Committee’s ongoing gym classification exercise and stakeholder engagements across the country.

To facilitate the completion of its work, the GBIMC said it has requested an urgent meeting with the appointing authority to secure the necessary financial support.

It noted that adequate funding is critical to organizing a successful Congress, ensuring a smooth transition, and handing over responsibilities to a newly elected Executive Board.

Despite the delays, the Committee reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the vetting and election processes with transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to the Constitution of the Ghana Boxing Authority.
