Ghana and Nigeria Confirmed for Ghana’s Black Spikers have confirmed their place at the 2026 Women’s African Volleyball Nations Cup after topping the Zone 3 qualifying series in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, a result that also sends regional rivals Nigeria through to the tournament in Nairobi, Kenya, this August.
The Confédération Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB) has since confirmed the complete list of qualified countries for the continental showpiece, with hosts Kenya joined by fifteen other countries drawn from across Africa’s six volleyball zones.
Ghana’s qualification arrives on the back of a strong showing in Abidjan, where the Black Spikers topped the Zone 3 standings to claim outright zonal honours, a result that underlines the side’s growing stature in West African women’s volleyball.
Nigeria, longstanding African heavyweights, also punched their ticket to Nairobi from the same qualifying series.
Zone 3 delivered two of the tournament’s most closely watched entrants, with Ghana’s title-winning run in Abidjan setting up a mouth-watering West African presence in Nairobi.
The Nations Cup will bring together champions from all six CAVB zones alongside host nation Kenya and a group of powerhouses, making for a field that blends established giants with emerging contenders.
North African sides Egypt, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia feature prominently, while Central, East and Southern Africa are represented through Cameroon, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
