The Ghana Kendo Federation (GKF) are competing in the inaugural Tunis Kendo International Championship in Tunisia, marking Ghana’s successful entry onto the global kendo stage.
Representing the nation as both competitor and delegate, GKF President Mr. Sesi Dzakpasu attended the championship. While financial considerations limited the delegation to his participation alone, Mr. Dzakpasu’s performance distinguished Ghana’s emerging kendo community, earning international recognition.

Mr. Dzakpasu secured a significant personal and national milestone by successfully passing his 1st Dan Black Belt examination. This accomplishment formally establishes him as the first practicing kendoka based in Ghana to achieve this rank. His competitive performance was equally notable, securing two decisive victories in the opening round and advancing to the championship quarterfinals.
Mr. Dzakpasu was honored with the “Most Spirited Fighter, Male Division” award. This accolade underscores his embodiment of the core values of kendo courage, perseverance, and fighting spirit.
Established less than a year ago, the Ghana Kendo Federation has made substantial progress in promoting the discipline through structured national training programs, the establishment of regional clubs, and targeted youth development initiatives.

Building on this successful international debut, the Federation renews its call for partners and supporters to join in advancing kendo across Ghana. The federation forward looking objectives include fielding a complete national team at future international competitions and expanding training outreach.
