The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced the conclusion of the Government of Ghana’s ticket support scheme for the Black Stars’ group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement dated June 29, 2026, the Ministry said the initiative, which was designed to support Ghanaian fans travelling to the United States and Canada, has officially ended following the Black Stars’ completion of their group-stage campaign.
According to the Ministry, the Government procured a limited number of tickets exclusively for Ghana’s three group-stage matches. The tickets were not made available for commercial sale but were distributed as part of a coordinated national support programme for selected Ghanaian supporters, recognised supporter groups, sponsors, stakeholders and members of the Ghanaian diaspora.
The Ministry disclosed the number of tickets allocated for each of Ghana’s group-stage fixtures:
Ghana vs Panama: 948 tickets
Ghana vs England: 1,000 tickets
Ghana vs Croatia: 974 tickets
The statement explained that the distribution process was coordinated through Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the United States and Canada.
Beneficiary lists were compiled in consultation with recognised Ghanaian associations and community groups, with tickets issued electronically through FIFA’s mobile ticketing system to approved recipients and designated group leaders.
The Ministry acknowledged that demand for tickets far exceeded the available allocation, resulting in many supporters being unable to secure tickets. It expressed appreciation for the passion and commitment shown by fans while sympathising with those who could not be accommodated under the limited allocation.
It further clarified that the government’s ticket support covered only Ghana’s group-stage matches. With the Black in the round of 32, there are currently no government-supported ticket arrangements for any subsequent stage of the FIFA World Cup. Supporters wishing to attend other matches have been advised to purchase tickets through FIFA’s official ticketing platform or accredited ticketing agencies.
The Ministry also thanked Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the United States and Canada, recognised supporter groups, sponsors and other stakeholders for their role in coordinating the successful implementation of the initiative.
In line with its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Ministry announced that it will publish the list of individuals, groups and institutions that benefited from the ticket support scheme once the appropriate publication format has been finalised.
