Hearts of Oak Brace for Bechem United Test in GPL Matchday 3, Kapor Expects Win
Hearts of Oak’s bright opening to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season faces another examination on Sunday when Bechem United visit the University of Ghana Stadium for Matchday 3.
The Phobians have made a perfect start under new head coach Nebojsa Kapor, collecting six points from their opening two matches while scoring six goals and conceding just once.
Their latest victory came away from home against Bibiani GoldStars, following a commanding 4-0 win over Berekum Chelsea on the opening weekend.
That run has given Hearts an early boost, with the club winning its first two league matches for the first time since the 2015/16 season under Kenichi Yatsuhashi.
Bechem United, however, represent a different proposition. The Hunters have picked up four points from their first two matches, beating GoldStars before drawing with Karela United.
Recent encounters between the two sides have also been closely contested, with Bechem losing only once in their last six meetings against Hearts.
A familiar battle at the University of Ghana Stadium
The last two league meetings ended goalless, including Bechem’s most recent trip to Hearts, which was also played at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Despite that, Hearts have traditionally enjoyed the advantage at home. They have won nine of the 14 league meetings against Bechem on home soil, with the Hunters claiming one victory and four matches ending in draws.
Kapor is aware that his side must continue improving despite the impressive start.
“Our confidence level is very high and players are really believing in everything we are doing,” he said.
“Victories came, this is a fact, but also what is my feeling and what I see, players also can feel we can improve a lot.”
The fitness of Alex Bansu could also be worth monitoring after the player suffered a late injury before the GoldStars match. Kapor said the initial assessment was positive, although Hearts are waiting for the full medical report.
“The first assessment was okay and I am sure he will get back faster than we expected,” he said.
With Bechem arriving with confidence of their own, Sunday’s fixture should provide a clearer indication of how Hearts respond when faced with an opponent capable of resisting their early momentum.
