Hearts of Oak Promise Major Changes After Falling Short in 2025/26 Campaign

Accra Hearts of Oak have admitted their 2025/26 season failed to meet the club’s expectations despite ending the campaign with one of the strongest defensive records in recent Ghana Premier League history.

The Phobians concluded the season in third place and signed off with an impressive 4-2 victory over champions Medeama SC on the final day, but club officials insist the overall campaign cannot be considered a success.

In an end-of-season statement released on Sunday, the club acknowledged that missing out on the league title and suffering an early elimination from the MTN FA Cup represented a major disappointment for a side with Hearts of Oak’s stature and ambitions.

We ultimately fell short of our primary objectives and the standards expected of Hearts of Oak,” part of the statement read, as management addressed growing frustration among supporters following another trophyless season.

The club particularly highlighted their FA Cup exit at the Round of 64 stage as one of the lowest moments of the year. The defeat drew heavy criticism from fans and pundits, with many questioning the team’s consistency and attacking quality throughout the campaign.

Ironically, Hearts produced remarkable numbers defensively. They conceded only 15 goals across the entire league season and registered a league-high 24 clean sheets, underlining the discipline and organisation within the backline.

However, their inability to consistently convert draws into wins and maintain momentum in crucial fixtures proved costly in the title race.

Club Begins Structural Review Ahead of New Season

Management say preparations for next season are already underway, with strategic assessments ongoing across both the technical and playing departments as the club looks to rebuild and compete more aggressively for trophies.

According to the statement, structural changes aimed at improving performance and strengthening competitiveness are already being implemented behind the scenes.

The club also confirmed plans to reinforce the squad once an existing transfer ban is lifted. Hearts expressed confidence that the restriction will soon be resolved, allowing new signings to be registered ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Beyond first-team recruitment, the Phobians revealed intentions to place renewed emphasis on youth development, scouting, and technical growth within the academy structure.

Hearts of Oak statement

The statement concluded with a direct message to supporters, thanking them for standing by the club during a difficult season while promising that efforts to restore Hearts of Oak to the summit of Ghanaian football have already begun.
