Karim Adeyemi Joins FC Barcelona From Borussia Dortmund

FC Barcelona have completed the signing of Germany international Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, with the versatile forward putting pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the Camp Nou until June 2031.

The deal marks another significant addition to Hansi Flick’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 season following the earlier signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

Barcelona and Dortmund reached an agreement worth an initial €22 million, with a further €7 million in performance-related add-ons, taking the total value of the transfer to €29 million. Dortmund have also secured a 20 percent sell-on clause on any future profit Barcelona make from the player’s sale.

Adeyemi arrives after spending four seasons with Borussia Dortmund, where he established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s quickest and most dangerous attacking players. The 24-year-old featured regularly in both domestic competitions and the UEFA Champions League, earning a reputation for his pace, direct running and ability to play across the front line.

The Munich-born attacker becomes Barcelona’s second signing of the summer as the Spanish champions continue strengthening their squad for the new campaign under Flick, who previously handed Adeyemi his senior Germany debut.

Flick Reunites With Familiar Face

The move reunites Adeyemi with Flick nearly five years after the German coach gave the forward his first senior international appearance. Flick has long admired the player’s versatility and believes he can add speed and flexibility to Barcelona’s attacking options.

Comfortable on either wing or as a central striker, Adeyemi is expected to provide competition across the frontline. His explosive acceleration, pressing ability and powerful left foot fit the high-intensity style that Flick has implemented since taking charge of the Catalan giants.

Barcelona believe the German international still has significant room for development and see him as a player capable of becoming an important part of the club’s long-term project.

Journey From Salzburg To Barcelona

Adeyemi was born in Munich on January 18, 2002, to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother. After progressing through the youth systems of TSV Forstenried, Bayern Munich and SpVgg Unterhaching, he made his professional breakthrough at Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

His impressive performances in Austria earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2022, where he continued his development against elite opposition in Germany and Europe. During his time with Dortmund, he made 48 UEFA Champions League appearances across spells with Salzburg and Dortmund, including two matches against Barcelona last season.

Although Adeyemi played an important role during Germany’s World Cup qualifying campaign, he narrowly missed out on selection for the final tournament. The disappointment has only strengthened his determination to impress at club level.

Fresh Challenge In Spain

Speaking after completing the transfer, Barcelona described Adeyemi as an ambitious player eager to continue improving and contribute to the club’s success.

The forward joins the Blaugrana refreshed after a summer without international tournament commitments and is expected to integrate immediately into the club’s pre-season preparations.

Barcelona will hope Adeyemi’s arrival adds another dimension to an attack already filled with young talent and experience.

His ability to stretch defences with his pace, operate in multiple attacking positions and press aggressively without the ball gives Flick greater tactical flexibility as the club targets domestic and European honours.
