Nicholas Opoku: The Brightest Spot in Kasimpasa’s Troubled Season
Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku has quietly put together one of his most consistent seasons in the Turkish Super Lig, emerging as a key figure for Kasımpaşa S.K. during a tense relegation fight.
The centre-back has been a regular presence at the heart of Kasımpaşa’s defence throughout the 2025/26 campaign, combining defensive solidity with composure on the ball in a difficult season for the Istanbul-based side.
With one game left to play, Kasımpaşa sit 14th in the league standings and remain locked in a battle to preserve their top-flight status. They will need at least a point against newly crowned champions Galatasaray S.K. on the final day to guarantee survival in the division.
Despite the pressure surrounding the club, Opoku’s individual numbers have highlighted his importance to the team.
The Black Stars defender has featured in 29 league matches this season, playing 2,341 minutes and helping the club keep seven clean sheets.
He has also contributed heavily defensively with 172 clearances, 30 tackles, 23 interceptions and 18 blocked shots.
His aerial presence has been equally crucial, winning 49 aerial duels while also showing strength in one-on-one situations with 96 ground duels won across the campaign.
Beyond his defensive work, Opoku has impressed with his distribution and calmness in possession. He has completed 1,032 successful passes from 1,152 attempts, maintaining an impressive 89 percent pass accuracy rate.
The Ghanaian defender averages 40 accurate passes and over 51 touches per game, underlining his role in helping Kasımpaşa build from the back. His ability to play long balls and chipped passes has also added another dimension to the side’s buildup play.
Opoku’s performances have come at a critical period for Kasımpaşa, with the club spending much of the season battling near the bottom half of the table.
While results have often been inconsistent, the former Amiens SC defender has remained one of the team’s most dependable performers.
Attention will now turn to the crucial final-day clash against Galatasaray, where Kasımpaşa must avoid defeat to confirm their survival in the Turkish top flight.

For Opoku, ending the season by helping his side escape relegation would cap off an impressive personal campaign in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues and also making a case for the a Black Stars call up ahead of the FIFA World Cup in June.
