Ghana’s football fraternity and the corporate world came together at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf park as Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) presented GHC30,000 to the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), following a friendly exhibition match between Black Stars Legends and UMB officials.
The fixture, organised under the auspices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and PFAG, brought together former Black Stars internationals and bank officials in a spirited contest that doubled as a platform for strengthening ties between Ghana’s football and corporate communities, while giving ex-players an opportunity to reconnect through the game they once graced professionally.
The Black Stars Legends side, coached by George Alhassan, fielded a lineup rich in football pedigree. Sammy Adjei marshalled the goal, while a back line of John Paintsil, Daniel Opare, Afo Dodoo and Jerry Akaminko anchored the defence. In midfield, Mohammed Gargo and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu controlled the tempo, with Godwin Attram pushed further forward. Yaw Preko and Haminu Dramani supplied width from the flanks, while Kwame Ayew led the line in attack.
UMB, who serve as banking partners to the GFA, used the occasion to formalise their support for the welfare of Ghanaian footballers.
Following the match, the bank presented a cheque of GHC30,000 to PFAG, received on behalf of the association by team captain Yaw Preko.
PFAG president Tony Baffoe commended UMB for the gesture, describing it as a reflection of the growing partnership between the banking sector and Ghana’s football community. Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu also expressed gratitude on behalf of the players, thanking UMB for its continued support to the game.
The event underscored UMB’s ongoing commitment to Ghana football beyond its role as a banking partner, reinforcing the bond between the corporate sector and the nation’s footballing legends.
