Sweden have named their 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, their 14th appearance at the tournament. However, their journey to qualify for Mexico, the United States, and Canada was not smooth

Sweden stumbled through European Qualifiers like a team in disguise. Drawn against Switzerland, Slovenia, and Kosovo, Sweden managed a humiliating two points, bottom of the group. Their previous manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked.

That miracle came through the Nations League back door. Sweden won their 2024-2025 group, earning a playoff lifeline.

In a semi-final moved to Spain due to the war in Ukraine, Sweden faced Ukraine. Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres produced a masterclass, a hat-trick in a 3-1 win that shocked the Ukrainians

Sweden beat Poland 3–2 in a thrilling match at home. The winning goal came late, just two minutes before full-time, scored by Viktor Gyökeres.

The Squad

Captain Victor Lindelöf will lead the defence with experience.

Up front, Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak will lead the attack.

Coach Graham Potter selected a 26-man squad combining strong defence and attacking talent, as Sweden aim to improve on their 1958 World Cup runners-up finish.

Group Matches

Sweden’s World Cup kicks off June 14 in Monterrey, Mexico, against Tunisia. Six days later, they will face the Netherlands, a top-ten ranked giant in Houston, Texas. The group stage wraps June 25 in Dallas against Asian powerhouse Japan.
