Team Ghana has departed Accra for Dakar, Senegal, to compete at the CAA Region II U18/U20 Athletics Championships, a regional showcase bringing together the finest young athletics talent from across West Africa.
The delegation left the Ghanaian capital today, Friday, 3rd July 2026, carrying the ambitions of a country determined to be represented with passion and excellence.
Organised under the auspices of the Confederation of African Athletics, the Region II championships serve as one of the continent’s key developmental platforms, offering emerging athletes from West Africa’s Under-18 and Under-20 age categories the opportunity to compete against regional rivals and gain valuable international exposure ahead of senior-level competition.
Ghana Athletics has assembled a compact but versatile eight-athlete squad for the trip, featuring competitors across sprints, jumps, and hurdles, alongside a coaching contingent tasked with guiding the team through the championships.
The squad blends experience across both age categories, with several athletes entered in multiple events, reflecting strong individual versatility within the team. The sprints and jumps disciplines carry the bulk of Ghana’s medal hopes, while representation in the 400m hurdles rounds out a well-distributed team on the track and in the field.
