Arne Slot laments tight schedule after Palace defeat

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted that his side’s gruelling fixture schedule has played a part in their recent poor run of form but insists it cannot be used as an excuse for their string of defeats.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 3–0 Carabao Cup loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield, Slot reflected on the team’s struggles, acknowledging that fatigue and travel demands have taken a toll on his players.

There are multiple reasons we have lost so many games,” Slot said. “But with all the reasons, still, there are no excuses to lose so many. It hasn’t been helpful that in all the games we lost, there were only two days in between, and we had to play away from home.”

The defeat marked Liverpool’s sixth loss in their last seven matches, extending a worrying slump for the English champions. Despite moments of promise early in the season where Liverpool won their opening five games, Slot’s men have faltered in recent weeks, with the demanding schedule cited as a contributing factor.

Liverpool are also winless in their last four meetings with Crystal Palace, losing three and drawing one, as the Eagles continued their impressive record against the Reds with goals from Ismaila Sarr and Yeremy Pino on Wednesday night.

With domestic and European commitments piling up, Slot faces a critical period in his second season in charge as he looks to steady the ship and reignite Liverpool’s campaign.
