Ezri Konsa Joins Arsenal as Premier League Champions Bolster Defensive Options
Arsenal have completed the signing of England international Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa on a long-term contract, adding further quality and experience to their defensive ranks ahead of the new season.
The 28-year-old defender arrives in north London following seven seasons at Villa Park, where he established himself as one of the club’s most consistent performers. He will wear the number 15 shirt for the Gunners.
Konsa’s professional journey began at Charlton Athletic, where he made his senior debut in 2016. He moved to Brentford in 2018 and spent one season with the club before earning a Premier League transfer to Aston Villa in 2019.
During his time at Villa, Konsa made more than 200 appearances across all competitions and became a key figure in the club’s rise. His spell also included European football and ended with Europa League success in his final campaign.
For Arsenal, his versatility is a major attraction. Although primarily a centre-back, Konsa is also comfortable operating at right-back, giving manager Mikel Arteta another option when managing his defensive setup.
Konsa’s profile also fits Arsenal’s preference for defenders who are comfortable in possession. The England international is capable of progressing the ball from deep and has the athleticism to defend spaces when his team pushes forward.
His development at Villa also earned him international recognition. After representing England at youth level, Konsa made his senior debut in 2024 and went on to feature in England’s squads for Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The defender will arrive at Arsenal already familiar with several members of the squad. He played alongside Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke during England’s 2026 World Cup campaign, which should help him settle into the dressing room.
Konsa has made his ambitions clear following the move, insisting that the opportunity to compete for major honours was central to his decision. “I want to keep winning, I’m hungry to win and that’s what I’m here for,” he said.
His arrival gives Arsenal another experienced option as they prepare to defend their Premier League crown and compete across multiple competitions.
After seven productive years at Villa, Konsa now begins a new chapter with the champions, with the expectation of contributing immediately to their pursuit of further silverware.
