Karela United FC has announced that the transfer ban imposed on the club by FIFA has been permanently lifted, bringing an end to a registration restriction that had threatened to disrupt the Tamale-based side’s preparations for the new season.
In a statement issued by the club’s management, Karela United confirmed that FIFA lifted the ban on 18 August 2026 following what it described as constructive engagement with all relevant parties, including the former player at the centre of the dispute.
The club said the matter had now been brought to a full and satisfactory conclusion.

The restriction had barred Karela United from registering new players at both the national and international levels, a sanction that carried significant implications for the club’s squad-building plans ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
With the ban now lifted, the club is free to resume registering players without limitation.
Background
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee had imposed the registration ban after ruling that Karela United had not fulfilled a financial obligation owed to a former player.
The sanction prevented the club from signing or registering new players domestically and internationally until the debt was settled.
FIFA had directed the Ghana Football Association to enforce the restriction at the national level.
The ban has since been permanently lifted after the club resolved the outstanding matter with the parties involved.
Karela United used the statement to extend its gratitude to supporters, partners and stakeholders for their patience and continued backing throughout the period the ban was in force. Management stressed that the club’s full attention has now shifted to preparations for the upcoming season.
“Our full focus now returns to preparations for the new season, and we remain committed to building a competitive team that will make our supporters proud,” the statement read.
