The Ghana Volleyball Federation has officially unveiled the final squad of the Black Spikers, Ghana’s Senior Women’s National Volleyball Team, ahead of their participation in the 2026 Women’s Africa Nations Volleyball Championship, set to be staged in Nairobi, Kenya, from 23 August to 5 September 2026.
The announcement brings to a close weeks of intense preparation, dedication, and hard work by the players and technical team, as Ghana readies itself to compete against some of the continent’s strongest volleyball countries on one of Africa’s biggest stages for the sport.
The Black Spikers arrive in Nairobi on the back of a commanding qualifying campaign at the CAVB Zone III Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where the team went unbeaten and sealed their place at the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Togo.
That performance underlined the growing depth and quality within women’s volleyball and has raised expectations ahead of the team’s outing in Kenya.
The tournament will bring together sixteen of Africa’s leading women’s national volleyball teams, competing across venues including the Kasarani Indoor Arena, Brookhouse School, and the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
Beyond bragging rights, the championship also carries added significance as a qualification pathway toward the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, raising the stakes for every participating nation, Ghana included.
For the Black Spikers, the tournament represents an opportunity to build on their qualifying momentum and announce themselves among the continent’s competitive pack, as Ghana looks to establish a firmer footing in women’s volleyball on the African stage.
The Ghana Volleyball Federation has expressed its profound gratitude to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for its support in making the team’s participation in Nairobi possible, describing the Ministry’s backing as instrumental to the Black Spikers’ continental campaign.
