The leadership of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has held talks with the High Commissioner of India to Ghana, H.E. Surinder Bhagat, to explore avenues for collaboration in sports development between the two countries.
The engagement, held in Accra, forms part of the Federation’s continued push to raise the profile of armwrestling on both the domestic and world stage.
The GAF delegation, led by President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Africa Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, used the occasion to formally welcome the High Commissioner to Ghana and to brief the Indian diplomatic mission on the country’s preparations for the 47th World Armwrestling Championship, scheduled to take place in New Delhi.
Team Ghana, popularly known as the Golden Arms, is expected to compete at the global showpiece.

Beyond the courtesy visit, discussions between the two sides touched on broader development cooperation for the sport, with the Federation keen to draw on India’s growing standing in armwrestling as it builds capacity at home.
The meeting also served as a platform to introduce the High Commissioner to the Federation’s longer-term ambitions, including efforts to see armwrestling included in the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
The GAF’s outreach comes at a significant moment for the sport in Ghana, with the national federation intensifying its diplomatic and administrative engagements ahead of the New Delhi championship.
Officials say the visit to the Indian High Commission underscores the Federation’s recognition of India as one of the sport’s traditional strongholds, and a potential partner in coaching, competition exposure, and technical development for Ghanaian athletes.
