EPL: Semenyo on Target as Manchester United and Bournemouth Share Eight-Goal Thriller
Antoine Semenyo grabbed his seventh Premier League goal of the season as AFC Bournemouth played out an epic 4–4 draw against Manchester United under the lights at Old Trafford.
The Ghanaian forward struck the equaliser for Bournemouth with five minutes remaining in the first half after Ivorian winger, Amad Diallo had handed the Red Devils an early lead in the thirteenth minute.
Semenyo’s goal briefly brought the Cherries level, but the parity did not last long as Casemiro rose highest to head home at the back post from a Bruno Fernandes free-kick delivery, restoring United’s advantage deep into first-half stoppage time.
The drama continued immediately after the break. Just 38 seconds into the second half, Evanilson pulled Bournemouth level again at 2–2 before Marcus Tavernier stepped up to curl a low free kick beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens, putting the visitors ahead for the first time in the contest.
Manchester United, however, refused to fold. Captain Bruno Fernandes responded with a stunning free kick of his own to make it 3–3, and minutes later the hosts capitalised on a defensive blunder, allowing Matheus Cunha to fire United into a 4–3 lead in a pulsating encounter.
As the game wore into the closing stages, substitute Jr. Krouppi struck in the dying minutes of regulation time to level the score once more, ensuring the points were shared after a breathless night of Premier League football.
United goalkeeper Lammens went on to produce two fine saves in additional time to deny Bournemouth a famous winner and prevent the Cherries from taking all three points in Manchester.
The goal marked a notable milestone for Semenyo, who has now scored in back-to-back games at Old Trafford. Bournemouth also continued their impressive scoring run at the famous venue, having netted three or more goals in each of their last three visits, following consecutive 3–0 victories in their previous two trips.
