Tennis world number one Carlos Alcaraz has ended his coaching relationship with Juan Carlos Ferrero after more than seven years together.

Ferrero, a former French Open champion, began working with Alcaraz when the player was a teenager. Under Ferrero’s guidance, the 22-year-old Spaniard won 24 titles, including six Grand Slam trophies, and rose to the top of the world rankings. Ferrero and fellow coach Samuel Lopez were recently honored as ATP Coaches of the Year for their work with Alcaraz in 2025, a season which included wins at Roland Garros and the US Open.

Both men shared heartfelt statements on social media regarding the split, though no specific reason was given for the decision.

Alcaraz expressed his deep thanks to Ferrero on platform X, stating, “It is very difficult for me to write this… After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player. Thank you for turning my childhood dreams into reality.”

He reflected on their journey from his childhood to the top of the sport, crediting Ferrero for his growth both as an athlete and a person. “I’ve enjoyed every single step,” Alcaraz wrote, adding that he believes they are parting at the peak they always aimed for. He wished his now former coach the best in future projects.

Ferrero echoed the sentiment in a post on Instagram, calling it “a difficult day.” He thanked Alcaraz for his trust and effort, saying, “I take with me laughter, challenges overcome, and the satisfaction of having been part of something truly unique.”

“Today, a very important chapter of my life comes to an end,” Ferrero stated. He closed his message by saying, “I wish I could have continued. I am convinced that good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again.”

Both men now look ahead to new chapters in their respective careers.
