Gold Stars Football Club has appointed Swiss international Fritz Markus Schmid as their new Head Coach. Schmid has signed a two-year contract with the club.

Coach Schmid brings a wealth of experience from the highest levels of football. His career includes roles as an assistant coach at top clubs like Tottenham Hotspur in England and FC Basel in Switzerland, as well as with the Austria National Team. He later took on the role of Head Coach for the New Zealand Men’s National Team.

Most recently, Schmid achieved notable success by playing a key part in guiding Kotoku Royals to promotion into the Ghana Premier League, demonstrating his skill in building and improving teams.

He now joins Gold Stars FC at the start of an exciting new chapter. His leadership will be central to the club’s journey, which is focused on clear ambition, steady growth, and achieving long-term success.

His key career milestones include:

Assistant Manager at FC Basel (7 years): Working under Christian Gross, he helped the club secure four Swiss Cups and qualify for the UEFA Champions League on two occasions.

Manager of New Zealand (2018): Appointed head coach of the national team.

Technical Director at Grasshopper Club Zürich (2024): Joined the club’s academy in this role on 15 February 2024.
