The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fine Egypt $5,000. This disciplinary action comes after the Pharaoh’s of Egypt’s failed to fulfill required media duties following their opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 against Zimbabwe.

Reason for the Fine

According to CAF the sanction was applied because players and technical staff did not engage with journalists in the post-match mixed zone. The entire delegation walked past waiting media without stopping to answer any questions. This constitutes a direct violation of the tournament’s media regulations, which require teams to provide access for post-match interviews.

CAF Issues Stern Warning

Along with the financial penalty, CAF issued a clear warning stating that heavier sanctions will be imposed if the team repeats the violation after their next match. Egypt is scheduled to face South Africa later today in a crucial group-stage fixture.

CAF emphasized that media obligations are a key part of the tournament’s operational rules. Engaging with the press is considered essential for promoting the sport and maintaining transparency with fans across the continent and worldwide.

The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 is currently in its group stage. National teams are expected to comply with all competition guidelines, including those related to media and broadcasting. Post-match press conferences and mixed zone interviews are standard protocol at all major CAF and FIFA tournaments.

The team’s focus will now shift to their upcoming match against South Africa, where both a positive result and compliance with media rules will be expected.
