Felix Kyei Preaches Defensive Improvement as Medeama Face Dreams FC in Outstanding GPL Fixture
Medeama SC goalkeeper Felix Kyei says the club must improve as a collective when they take on Dreams FC in a Ghana Premier League outstanding fixture on Wednesday.
The reigning champions returned to league action on Saturday after their CAF Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Vision FC, leaving them with two games in hand.
Kyei conceded that Medeama’s defensive problems cannot be isolated to the goalkeeper or backline, insisting the entire team must contribute to tightening up ahead of their next assignment.
“The goals I’m conceding are not only a defensive issue; it’s the whole team. We’re working to improve, and we’re ready and prepared for the Dreams FC game,” Kyei told Medeama’s media team ahead of the game.
The Tarkwa-based side will be eager to put their continental disappointment behind them after TP Mazembe eliminated them 4-1 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League preliminary qualifying round.
With their continental campaign now over, Medeama can turn their full attention to the domestic league as they begin their title defence, although Wednesday’s trip presents a difficult challenge against a familiar opponent.
Dreams FC have enjoyed the better record in recent meetings, winning four of the last six encounters across all competitions, while Medeama have claimed two victories in that period.
Medeama Face Tough Away Record Against Dreams FC
The historical record at Dreams FC’s home ground makes the task even more demanding for Medeama. The champions have never won away against the Still Believe since Dreams FC reached the Ghanaian top flight in 2016.
Medeama have made eight previous league visits to Dreams FC, recording just one draw in their first trip in 2016 and suffering defeat in each of their subsequent seven visits.
Their most recent meeting also ended in disappointment, with Dreams FC securing a 3-2 victory over Medeama in last season’s MTN FA Cup semi-final.
Kyei’s Call for a Stronger Team Effort
For Kyei, breaking that difficult away sequence will require more than individual performances. The goalkeeper’s comments point to a collective response from Medeama as they seek their first league victory of the campaign.
The 1-1 draw with Vision FC showed that the champions still have work to do defensively, but Wednesday provides an immediate opportunity to respond.
