The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has announced disciplinary measures against several licensees who participated in a professional boxing event while a nationwide suspension was in effect.

The suspension began on 25th September 2025, following the end of the Ghana Boxing Authority’s mandate. Despite this ban, a boxing event was held at the Aborigines Hotel in Keta, Volta Region.

After conducting hearings, the Committee found promoters, ring officials, trainers, medical personnel, and boxers involved guilty of misconduct. While some denied the event’s location, evidence confirmed the violation. Several officials admitted their involvement, while others, including a ringside nurse and two boxers, did not attend the hearings.

The following sanctions have been imposed, effective from 23rd December 2025:

Promoters Alex Nitamoah-Boakye and Abubakar Sadik Akake each received a six-month suspension and a fine of GH¢5,000.

Ring Officials Roger Barnor, Erasmus Owoo, and Richard Amevi were fined between GH¢1,000 and GH¢5,000. Failure to pay will result in suspensions ranging from three to nine months.

Medical Officer Edward Asante was fined GH¢5,000 and cautioned. He must only work under the direct supervision of a present medical doctor in the future.

Trainers Ebenezer Adjei and Ernest Ofori were each fined GH¢2,000. Defaulting on payment will lead to a four-month suspension and a ban from the ringside.

Boxers Bastie Samir and Abraham Okine were suspended for 12 months. Michael Abban was fined GH¢2,000, while Faisal Abubakar and Joshua Quartey were each fined GH¢1,000. Non-payment will result in additional suspensions.

The GBIMC, formed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation on 29th September 2025, stated that the decision reinforces the need for all stakeholders to respect the rules governing the sport during this interim period.
