Andre Ayew Signs with NAC Breda in Eredivisie ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Former Ghana captain Andre Ayew has signed with Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda. The 36-year-old forward joins the club as it battles to avoid relegation, bringing a wealth of experience to the squad.

Ayew has signed a contract until the end of the current season. NAC Breda also holds an option to extend his stay for one more year.

The Ghanaian international has been without a club since leaving French side Le Havre in the summer of 2025. During his time as a free agent, he turned down several other offers to maintain his fitness at Nania FC in Ghana, a club owned by his father, African football icon Abédi Pelé.

Ayew boasts an impressive career at the highest level. With over 120 caps and 24 goals for Ghana, he has also made nearly 600 appearances in major European leagues. He has played for clubs such as Olympique de Marseille, Swansea City, and West Ham United, scoring more than 160 goals in competitions like the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and Ligue 1.

Upon finalizing his move, Ayew expressed his readiness for the challenge. “I am someone who really enjoys challenges, both for myself and for the team. I see that opportunity here at NAC,” he stated. “I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates. Our only goal is to stay in the Eredivisie. The right mentality is crucial now, and together with our fans, we will fight for this in the second half of the season.”

NAC Breda’s Technical Director, Peter Maas, explained the club’s decision. “In our talks, it became very clear that André is eager to help NAC in our fight for survival. We are in a difficult position, and André has also faced tough moments in his long career. He is a true professional who keeps himself in excellent condition. We believe his experience and specific qualities can be very valuable for us right now.”

Ayew will immediately join the squad under head coach Carl Hoefkens. The team is set to resume training on Friday, January 2nd, at their training ground in Zundert.
