Ghanaian hurdler Evonne Britton made history on Saturday, January 24, 2026, by breaking the national indoor record in the women’s 60m hurdles at the ISTAF Indoor meeting.

Britton stormed to victory in a time of 7.99 seconds, becoming the first Ghanaian athlete ever to run the event in under eight seconds. The performance secured her the gold medal in a strong international field.

Finland’s Reetta Hurske claimed second place in 8.02 seconds, while German athlete Rosina Schneider took third in 8.06.

The record-breaking run automatically qualifies Britton for the 2026 World Indoor Championships, set to be held in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland. Her achievement marks a significant milestone for Ghana in track and field.
