Adingra set for AS Monaco loan switch
Ivorian winger Simon Adingra is on the verge of completing a loan move to French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco from Sunderland, with an option to buy set at €17 million.
Monaco are expected to pay an initial €1 million loan fee for the 24-year-old, who only joined Sunderland in the summer from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite arriving at the Stadium of Light with high expectations, reports indicate that Adingra is now poised for a quick return to French football as Monaco look to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.
The Ivory Coast international previously enjoyed spells in France with FC Nordsjælland’s feeder club and later impressed in Belgium before earning his move to Brighton, where he broke into the first team and gained Premier League experience.
A switch to Monaco would offer Adingra the opportunity to feature regularly in Ligue 1 and European competitions, while Sunderland stand to benefit financially should the option to buy be activated at the end of the loan spell.
An official announcement is expected once the final details of the deal are completed.
