Ghana international Jonas Adjetey has completed a high-profile move to German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg during the winter transfer window, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract after leaving Swiss giants FC Basel.

Adjetey proved a consistent and reliable performer during his time at Basel, making 73 competitive appearances, six of which came in European competitions, helping the club secure a League and Cup double last season.

Adjetey, who has developed into a key player at Basel, expressed his excitement about the move to Germany. “It means a lot to me to be in the Bundesliga now and to take this step with VfL Wolfsburg,” the defender said. “I’m looking forward to getting started right away and will give my all every day so that together we can get the results we need.”

The club sees Adjetey as a strong, modern defender who will add quality and depth to their back line. His arrival is part of Wolfsburg’s ongoing efforts to build a competitive squad for the future.

Wolfsburg’s sporting management highlighted Adjetey’s potential and physical profile as key factors in the decision. They believe his style of play is well-suited to the demands of the Bundesliga.

Speaking to the club website after the signing of the 22-year-old, Schwegler expressed confidence in the Black Stars defender’s ability to excel with the team.

“At Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally over the past three and a half years,” he said.

“We have high hopes for Jonas [Adjetey] and are convinced that he will strengthen our team immediately,” Schwegler added.

With his physical presence, pace, and composure, the 22-year-old will add immediate steel and athleticism to Wolfsburg’s backline. He represents both a long-term defensive solution and a promising talent ready to flourish in a top European league.

Adjetey joins Wolfsburg at a time when the club ranks 14th in the 18-team league Bundesliga standings and has conceded 42 goals in 20 league games.

Consistent performances in the Bundesliga could strengthen his bid for a place in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
