Asante Kotoko has reportedly parted ways with head coach Karim Zito. The decision comes after a meeting between Zito and the club’s Interim Management Committee, with both sides agreeing to part ways.
This change follows the team’s recent exit from the FA Cup. Kotoko were eliminated by Aduana FC in a penalty shootout last weekend after a 0-0 draw, ending their hopes of defending the trophy they won last season.
Zito, who joined the club in April 2025, led the Porcupine Warriors to that FA Cup victory. However, the current season has been challenging. The team has struggled to find consistent form in the Ghana Premier League, where they currently sit in fifth position with 35 points from 21 games. They are eight points behind the leaders, Medeama SC.
The club’s management felt a change was necessary as they aim to improve their league standing and meet the expectations of their supporters.
The timing of this move brings immediate focus to one of Ghana football’s biggest matches. Kotoko will now prepare for their next game without Zito.
They are set to face their long-time rivals, Hearts of Oak, in the “Super Clash” this Sunday, February 15, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
