In one of the most startling results of the tennis season, Daniil Medvedev suffered a comprehensive 6-0, 6-0 loss to Matteo Berrettini at the Monte-Carlo Masters on Wednesday, lasting just 49 minutes on court.
The former world Number 1 and 2021 US Open champion managed to win only 17 points across the entire match. Berrettini, a former Wimbledon finalist competing as a wild card, became the first ATP player in a decade to defeat a top‑10 opponent without dropping a single game.
Berrettini was efficient from the outset, yielding no break-point opportunities and, remarkably, not allowing Medvedev a single game point on his own serve. The Italian’s precision and power contrasted sharply with Medvedev’s subdued and error‑prone display.
For Medvedev, it marked the first time in his career that he has lost a tour‑level match without winning a game. The defeat also extended his unwanted record to 10 career sets lost by a 6‑0 margin.

The frustration boiled over midway through the second set. After falling 6‑0, 2‑0 down, Medvedev hurled his racket to the back of the court, retrieved it, smashed it repeatedly against the ground, and then calmly placed the broken frame into a courtside bin.
Berrettini will face Borna Ćorić in the next round, while Medvedev is left to regroup ahead of the clay‑court season.
