Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a significant injury blow, with winger Mohammed Kudus potentially ruled out for the remainder of the season and possibly longer, amid concerns he may require surgery.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian international has been sidelined since January 4, having been forced off during the club’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland after sustaining a thigh injury.

At the time, former Spurs manager Thomas Frank who was dismissed by the club in February described the issue as “a bigger one to the tendon and quad,” initially ruling Kudus out until the start of April.

Tottenham had remained hopeful that the £55 million summer signing from West Ham would return to action following last week’s international break. However, according to The Sun, Kudus may now need an operation, and there are growing fears within the club that he could even miss Ghana’s World Cup campaign this summer.

The Black Stars begin their group-stage fixtures on June 18 against Panama, before facing England and Croatia. Kudus’ absence would represent a major setback for both club and country.

Since joining Spurs last summer, Kudus has registered three goals and five assists this season. His prolonged absence is a further challenge for new manager Roberto De Zerbi, who will take charge of his first game this weekend as Tottenham travel to Sunderland on Sunday.

Spurs currently sit 17th in the Premier League, just one point above West Ham, who occupy a relegation place.
