The Black Queens will learn their FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 Play-Off path during the official draw ceremony, scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 20, in Zürich, Switzerland.
Per the draw mechanism released Ghana has been seeded in Pot 3 for the global qualifying tournament. The Black Queens are slated to face one of three potential opponents: Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, or Papua New Guinea.
Critically, the draw regulations ensure that Ghana will not be paired with fellow African side South Africa, thereby avoiding an intercontinental collision between CAF representatives at this preliminary stage.
The play-off tournament, which serves as the final qualifying gateway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, will be structured in two distinct phases. The preliminary phase is scheduled to run from November 24 to December 5, 2026.
During this initial group-based competition, Ghana must secure a top-two finish within their group to progress. A finish outside the top two would terminally end their World Cup aspirations.
Should the Black Queens successfully navigate the preliminary phase, they will advance to the final phase of the play-offs, where they will remain in active contention for one of the remaining berths at the global finals in Brazil.
The final phase will feature a knockout format, with the winners earning their passage to the 2027 World Cup.
