Liverpool Set for Life After Robertson as Club Confirms Summer Departure

Liverpool FC are preparing for a future without Andy Robertson after confirming that the Scottish will leave the club at the end of the 2025–26 season.

Robertson’s exit, confirmed ahead of the final stretch of the campaign, comes as his contract runs down this summer.

The Scotland captain will depart Anfield having made 373 appearances since his arrival from Hull City in 2017, evolving from a bargain signing into a cornerstone of the team’s identity under former manager, Jurgen Klopp.

I’ll always look back on amazing memories at this football club, I’ve put my heart and soul into the club for nine years and I’ve not got many regrets.”

Robertson will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after 9 years

Replacing Robertson is not just about finding another left-back. It is about filling a role that has been structurally critical under Jürgen Klopp. For years, Liverpool’s system has relied heavily on attacking full-backs, with Robertson providing width, intensity, and consistent delivery in the final third.

His chemistry on the flank and his ability to balance attack with defensive recovery made him indispensable until the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth this season.

Few players in his position matched his durability and output across multiple seasons, and that reliability is not easily replicated.

End of a Defining Era

Robertson’s departure is also symbolic. He is among the last core figures of a group that transformed Liverpool into serial contenders domestically and in Europe.

During his time, the club secured major honours including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, alongside multiple domestic and international trophies.

At 32, and after years of high-intensity football, the physical demands of his role were always going to become a factor.

Despite the long-term implications, the immediate priority remains unchanged. Robertson is expected to play a full role in the run-in, with the club still chasing success this season. Any emotional send-off has been deliberately postponed, a sign of the professional focus within the squad.

Still, the timing of the announcement injects an undercurrent into Liverpool’s final fixtures. Every appearance now carries added weight, not just in competitive terms but in legacy.
