A group of promising young talents from the Blue Rose Table Tennis Club  delivered an impressive performance to emerge as standout participants at the 2026 World Table Tennis Day cadet competition held on Saturday at New Ashongman Estates in Accra.

Louis Mbrah Kinful, Nicholas Adu Boahen, Nathan Frimpong, Napoleon Frimpong, and Jeffrey Adjabeng displayed remarkable technical skill throughout the event, underlining their potential as future stars of the sport.

The competition formed part of activities marking World Table Tennis Day, hosted at The Big House Table Tennis Club in New Ashongman. The cadet tournament brought together six clubs: The Big House Club, Blue Rose TT Club (Kasoa), Ping Hopes (Mallam), Chorkor TT Club, Madina TT Club, and Vilcabamba Club (Dansoman).

Organized by Rightset Ghana in collaboration with The Big House, the event received support from the ITTF Foundation and Spinsight. Over the course of the competition, young players thrilled spectators with energetic displays of skill and techniques.

Despite failing to secure a win, participants from Chorkor TT Club expressed enthusiasm for the sport, while highlighting challenges such as limited access to equipment and support, an issue that affirms the need for broader investment in grassroots development.

Speaking after the event, Samuel Asare Bediako, founder of The Big House Table Tennis Club, described the programme as a valuable platform for nurturing young talent. He emphasized that beyond competition, the initiative instills discipline, teamwork, and other essential values, while encouraging parents to support their children’s involvement in sports.

Representing Rightset Ghana, Samira Mensah commended the players for their dedication and expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the three-day celebration in Ghana.

Observed annually on April 23, World Table Tennis Day promotes inclusivity, health, and community engagement through sport.

Spearheaded by the ITTF Foundation, the initiative encourages participation in diverse settings from schools and parks to public spaces across the globe. The date also commemorates the birth anniversary of Ivor Montagu, a key figure in the development of international table tennis.

Through activities ranging from grassroots competitions to public exhibitions worldwide, the celebration continues to reinforce table tennis as a unifying sport that bridges cultures and inspires the next generation.
