Nations FC have been relegated in Ghana’s top flight after a dramatic end to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, their relegation confirmed not by their own failings on the pitch, but by events entirely beyond their control.

A hard-earned 1-0 away triumph over Karela United FC proved not enough to keep them up, as Swedru All Blacks pulled off one of the great escape acts of the campaign to survive at their expense.

At Karela United’s ground, they ground out a narrow but decisive 1-0 victory, but football, as it so often proves, has little regard for sentiment.

At the same time, Swedru All Blacks were producing a result a surprising result through the league. Swedru All Blacks produced a stunning 2-1 victory, a result that preserved their Premier League status and simultaneously sealed Nations FC’s fate.

But the numbers tell a different story. Nations FC ended the campaign in 15th position with 44 points from 34 matches, just a single point separating them from safety. Swedru All Blacks, also on a difficult run, survived on 45 points.

Despite been relegated, the Kumasi side will contest the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup final against Dreams FC at the University of Ghana Stadium on May 31, a chance to win silverware from what has otherwise been a heartbreaking campaign. Cup success would offer the club a  consolation and hand them a pathway back into continental competition despite their top-flight exit.
