The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) announced, the postponement of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Executive Board Elections. Originally scheduled for 4 June 2026, the elections have been stayed to address critical procedural appeals and documentation deficiencies raised by several aspirants.

The decision, reached in consultation with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, was not taken lightly. According to a press release signed by Samir Captan, Chairman of the GBIMC, the postponement serves a singular purpose, to ensure no qualified candidate is disenfranchised due to administrative oversight or incomplete submissions.

Following several appeals from aspirants for amendments, corrections, and submission of requested documents, the GBIMC has resolved to conduct the final vetting session on Thursday, 4th June 2026 at the Accra Sports Stadium,” the statement read.

In a notable enhancement to the electoral process, the GBIMC has introduced a mandatory Fitness-For-Role (FFR) evaluation for candidates contesting the three highest offices, President, 1st Vice President, and 2nd Vice President. The FFR assessment is designed to fortify the integrity of the leadership selection process, ensuring that those who steer Ghana’s boxing administration possess not only the constitutional qualifications but also the functional capacity to lead a demanding sports federation.

The final vetting session will proceed on the originally scheduled election date, 4 June, while the election itself has been moved to a later, yet-to-be-announced date. The GBIMC promised that the new date for the Elective Extraordinary Congress will be communicated immediately after vetting and all ancillary consultations are concluded.

In his concluding remarks, Chairman Captan reassured stakeholders across Ghana’s boxing fraternity, from grassroots gyms to professional promotional houses that both the vetting and election processes would be conducted with uncompromising transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to the GBA Constitution.

This is not a delay,” Captan emphasized in a separate internal briefing. “It is a refinement. Ghana boxing deserves leaders chosen not in haste, but in truth.”

The Accra Sports Stadium will serve as the venue for Thursday’s final vetting session. All aspirants are required to present original copies of previously requested documents, and those contesting top roles must prepare for the newly instituted Fitness-For-Role evaluation.
