The ninth stage of the International Cycling Tour of Cameroon 2026 connected Pouma to Yaoundé via Boumnyebel, covering 116 kilometers.
In stage 9, it was Joël Kasereka Kyaviro of the Democratic Republic of Congo who claimed his first stage victory in a sprint, crossing the line in the capital city ahead of Algeria’s Abderaouf Bengayou and Cameroon’s Clovis Kamzong Abossolo (SNH Velo Club).
From the first intermediate sprint at kilometer 20, Kasereka took the lead, followed by Kamzong and Bengayou. The same scenario played out at the second sprint (km 54.2) and the third (km 109), where Kamzong edged ahead of his two rivals. But it was the Congolese rider who made the difference in the final hectometers, winning in 2 hours, 49 minutes and 3 seconds, at an average speed of 41.17 km/h.
Behind the leading trio, Dutchman Pepijn Bruil (Global Cycling Team) took fourth place, while Rwandan Vainqueur Masengesho (Benediction Banafrica Team) completed the top five.
General Classification: Charrois Still in Yellow
No changes are to be reported at the top of the general classification. Germany’s Leo Charrois (Team Embrace the World) retains the yellow jersey with a cumulative time of 21 hours, 53 minutes and 12 seconds. He leads Cameroon’s Rodrigue Eric Kuere Nouawe (SNH Velo Club) by 44 seconds, and Algeria’s Oussama Abdellah Mimouni, who wears the polka-dot jersey, by 1 minute and 51 seconds.
Young Burkinabe rider Soumaila Ilboudo (14 years old) remains at the top of the best young rider classification (white jersey) and holds fifth place overall, demonstrating his impressive potential.
Green Jersey: Assal Extends His Lead
Mohamed-Nadjib Assal (Algeria) has extended his lead in the points classification, wearing the green jersey with a total of 155 points. He leads Rodrigue Eric Kuere Nouawe (129 points) and Saturnin Yameogo (Burkina Faso, 121 points). Despite his stage victory, Joël Kasereka sits only sixth in this classification with 93 points.
King of the Mountains: Mimouni Unchallenged
Oussama Abdellah Mimouni (Algeria) tops the mountains classification with 30 points, comfortably holding onto his polka-dot jersey. Behind him, Abderaouf Bengayou (18 points) and Soumaila Ilboudo (16 points) complete the provisional podium.
Team Classification: SNH Velo Club Still Leads
In the general team classification, SNH Velo Club (Cameroon) remains in first place with a cumulative time of 65 hours, 49 minutes and 14 seconds. They lead Benediction Banafrica Team (Rwanda) by 1 minute and 15 seconds and Team Embrace the World (Germany) by 1 minute and 25 seconds. The Democratic Republic of Congo, winner of the day’s team classification, sits in seventh place overall.
The panel of commissaires announced, via communiqué No. 10, the designated feeding and waste disposal zones for the tenth stage: from kilometer 28 to kilometer 29 (after the Nsimalen interchange), from kilometer 56 to kilometer 57 (after the fourth categorized climb), and 100 meters after the finish line, over a distance of one kilometer at each passage.
Looking Ahead to Stage 10
The tenth stage will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The teams are already set. 41 riders remain in contention, representing eight countries and formations. Yellow jersey holder Leo Charrois will attempt to defend his lead, while climbers and sprinters will look to make their final marks on what is already a historic Cameroonian Tour.
