Ghana is leveraging the global platform of the 2026 Commonwealth Games to promote the country’s tourism, trade, culture, and investment opportunities through the establishment of Ghana House, a dedicated hospitality and promotional center in Glasgow.

Speaking at Ghana House, Hon. Kwabena Woyome, Chairman of the Government Relations and Stakeholders Sub-Committee of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), emphasized that the initiative goes beyond sports, serving as a strategic platform to project Ghana’s image and strengthen international partnerships.

According to Hon. Woyome, Ghana House offers visitors from across the Commonwealth the opportunity to experience Ghanaian culture, sample authentic local cuisine, learn about the country’s tourism destinations, and explore business and investment prospects.

He explained that the initiative is designed to create a welcoming environment for athletes, officials, supporters, tourists, and business executives, describing Ghana House as a “home away from home” where visitors can interact with the country’s rich cultural heritage while establishing valuable connections.

Hon. Woyome noted that the Commonwealth comprises more than 54 member countries, representing nearly two-thirds of the world’s population, making the Games an ideal platform to showcase Ghana to a diverse international audience.

He stressed that every visitor who passes through Ghana House leaves with information about the country, creating opportunities for future tourism, trade, cultural exchange, and investment long after the Games have ended.

The objective is to position Ghana as an attractive destination where people can visit, invest, conduct business, and experience our unique culture and hospitality,” he said.

The initiative has received strong backing from the National Sports Authority (NSA), reflecting the government’s commitment to using sports as a catalyst for national development.

Dr. Fred Awaah, Board Chairman of NSA highlighted the presence of the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, at the opening of Ghana House as evidence of the government’s support for integrating sports, tourism, creative arts, and commerce to drive economic growth under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.

Secretary General of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Shaaban Mohammed also underscored the importance of utilizing the global attention generated by the Commonwealth Games to promote Ghanaian products and services. He observed that visitors have shown significant interest in Ghanaian chocolate, kente, traditional fabrics, local cuisine, and other indigenous products.

They described Ghana House as the beginning of a broader strategy to market Ghana on the international stage and expressed optimism that the initiative would continue at future global sporting events.

Throughout the Games, Ghana House is expected to serve as a vibrant meeting point for athletes, officials, members of the Ghanaian diaspora, investors, tourists, and Commonwealth visitors, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a welcoming destination for tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
