A group of 30 member delegates of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has formally petitioned the Authority’s Secretary General to convene an Extraordinary Congress, with the aim of appointing a five-member Elections Committee to oversee the election of a substantive Executive Board.
In a letter copied to the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Minister for Sports and Recreation, the delegates cited Article 4.10 of the GBA Constitution, which permits members to request an Extraordinary Congress under defined circumstances.
The petitioners have proposed Tuesday, August 11, 2026, as the date for the Congress, naming The Gym Boxing and Fitness Club as the preferred venue.
According to the delegates, the request has become necessary following the expiration of the Interim Management Committee’s (IMC) mandate. They note that while the IMC’s original mandate lapsed in April 2026, it subsequently failed to meet an extended deadline of June 2026, by which it had been expected to supervise the election of a substantive Executive Board.
The delegates maintain that constituting an independent Elections Committee represents a crucial constitutional step toward restoring normal governance within the Ghana Boxing Authority.
The petitioners have further argued that, once formed, the Elections Committee should be given a clear timeline within which to organize elections that are transparent, credible, and fair, and that are conducted strictly in accordance with the GBA Constitution.
The elections that follow are expected to produce a substantive Executive Board mandated to administer the affairs of professional boxing in Ghana for a four-year term, in line with the Authority’s constitutional provisions.
