English Winger Anthony Gordon will travel to Spain to have his medical after Barcelona agreed a €70 million deal with Newcastle United to sign the 25-year old.

The deal ends weeks of speculation over Gordon’s future, with Bayern Munich and Liverpool also interested in the Newcastle star. However, Barcelona acted quickly to secure his signature.

Gordon has been one of Europe’s standout wingers this season, especially in the UEFA Champions League, where he scored 10 goals in 12 matches. He also impressed against Barcelona when the two clubs met in the competition, with the Spanish giants getting a close look at the player they are now set to sign.

Prominent Spanish football reporter José Álvarez, who has tracked the negotiations closely, wrote a statement on social media, framing it not merely as an acquisition but as a declaration of power.

Barça shows its power and economic muscle for a player that Bayern and Liverpool wanted. We’ve been telling you for some time that Barça would make a big investment this summer, and these 70 million are just the beginning. There’ll be a bigger one. Consider yourselves warned.” José Álvarez, Spanish Football Reporter

Despite signing Gordon, Barcelona are not done in the transfer market. The club is also interested in Julián Álvarez and João Pedro. However, both players would cost more than the €70m Barcelona agreed to pay for Gordon.

Barcelona are also trying to resolve the future of Marcus Rashford, whose loan from Manchester United expires this summer. The forward delivered a productive campaign at Camp Nou, registering 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions

Barcelona still have the option to sign Rashford permanently for €30m ($35m), but reports indicate that the club would prefer to negotiate a lower fee with Manchester United instead of paying the full amount.

Another loan deal is also being considered. However, any agreement will likely depend on Rashford accepting lower wages as part of the deal.
