Black Princesses To Face Mexico in Key World Cup Warm-Up
Ghana’s Black Princesses will continue their preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup when they face Mexico’s U-20 women’s team in an international friendly on Saturday, August 29.
The encounter will be played behind closed doors at the Stadion Miejskiego Klubu Sportowego Górnik Wałbrzych in Poland, with kick-off at 12:00 GMT.
Head coach Charles Sampson will use the game to further assess his squad, test tactical combinations and build cohesion ahead of Ghana’s World Cup campaign. The Black Princesses began their friendly programme with a 4-0 victory over Polish side Ślęza Wrocław.
The Mexico test will provide a stronger international examination as Ghana enter the final phase of their preparations. The team arrived in Poland earlier this month after an extended training camp in Ghana.
Ghana will make their eighth consecutive appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, but are yet to progress beyond the group stage. Their best performances have therefore ended at the first hurdle, making qualification for the knockout phase the major objective under Sampson.
The 2026 tournament runs from September 5 to 27 in Poland, with Ghana drawn in Group C alongside Ecuador, Korea Republic and France.
The Black Princesses will open against Ecuador on September 6 at Arena Sosnowiec before facing Korea Republic on September 9. They will conclude the group stage against France on September 12, with all three matches scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
With less than two weeks separating Saturday’s friendly from their World Cup opener, the Mexico encounter offers Sampson an important opportunity to identify his strongest combinations and address weaknesses before Ghana begin their latest attempt to make history at the tournament.
