Delap Not Good Enough for Chelsea – Mikel Obi
Former Chelsea FC midfielder John Obi Mikel has singled out Liam Delap in his criticism of the club’s current squad, insisting the forward does not meet the standard required at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking after Chelsea’s recent struggles, Obi did not hold back in his assessment, questioning both the player’s impact and suitability for the team’s ambitions.
“Things have to change in order for us to get to the level we were. The players have to change and we have to strengthen the squad in the summer. Liam Delap has not been good. He is not good enough for Chelsea football club. He might be good for Ipswich Town FC because of their structure and how they play but he’s not good enough for Chelsea,” he said.
Obi’s comments highlight wider concerns about Chelsea’s recruitment and squad quality, with the former midfielder suggesting that certain players are not equipped to handle the demands of a club expected to compete at the highest level.

The criticism comes amid a difficult spell for the Blues, with questions growing over the team’s direction and whether recent signings are capable of restoring the club’s competitive edge.
Liam Delap joined Chelsea last summer from Ipswich Town in a move worth £30m. The striker has been a pale shadow of the form he showed during his time with the Tractor Boys.
He has scored just 2 goals this season in as many appearances, numbers that have called for heightened criticisms against the 23-year-old who scored 12 times in the Premier League for Ipswich last term.
