Fatawu Issahaku Shines Despite Ipswich Demolition at Old Trafford
Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku produced a lively performance for Ipswich Town despite their heavy 5-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Fatawu was instrumental in Ipswich’s bright start, creating the opening goal with an excellent piece of individual skill.
The Ghanaian winger nut-megged Luke Shaw before delivering a well-weighted cross into the box for Leif Davis to turn home and give the visitors an early lead.
The assist underlined Fatawu’s attacking threat as he repeatedly looked to take on United’s defenders and create opportunities from the flank.
His pace and direct running offered Ipswich an important outlet, particularly during a first half in which the visitors caused United problems.
However, Ipswich were unable to maintain their intensity after the break as United took control of the contest.
Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick, while Bryan Mbeumo and an own goal from Jacob Greaves completed the home side’s rout.
Fatawu continued to work hard despite United’s dominance, but his efforts could not prevent Ipswich from suffering their first defeat of the Premier League season following their 2-1 victory over Sunderland on the opening weekend.
The 22-year-old’s performance nevertheless provided a positive individual takeaway for Ghana, with his assist showcasing the creativity and confidence that have made him an important attacking option for both club and country.
Ipswich will now look to regroup from the Old Trafford setback as they prepare for another tough clash with Liverpool on Friday, and Fatawu will hope to build on his promising display as the Premier League season progresses.
