Ghana has reaffirmed its ambition to host major continental and international football tournaments following a high-level meeting between officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

The delegation, led by CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu and GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, where discussions centered on strengthening Ghana’s football infrastructure and advancing grassroots development.

During the meeting, the Minister affirmed the unifying power of football in Ghanaian society, describing the sport as a vital tool for national cohesion and identity.

He acknowledged both the challenges and opportunities within the sector, emphasizing the government’s commitment to building sustainable structures that support grassroots and school-level football.

“Football is big and contributes significantly to fostering national unity,” the Minister noted, reiterating plans to tap into the country’s rich talent pool through targeted development initiatives.

CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s capacity to emerge as a leading destination for major tournaments on the continent.

He assured the government of CAF’s continuous support and encouraged authorities to prioritize the modernization of key football infrastructure, including stadium pitches and training facilities.

“Trust us any day and time because Ghana is home, and we expect your guidance to succeed,” Adamu stated, while calling for a comprehensive strategic framework to enhance the country’s chances of securing hosting rights.

CAF further pledged technical assistance to support Ghana’s infrastructure development agenda, highlighting that world-class facilities remain a critical requirement for staging international competitions.

The meeting marks an important step in Ghana’s renewed push to position itself as a hub for African football. With strengthened collaboration between CAF, the GFA, and the government, the country is poised to build a competitive foundation capable of attracting major tournaments while nurturing the next generation of football talent.
