Hon. Kofi Adams, has paid glowing tribute to legendary footballer Rev. Osei Kofi, lauding his immeasurable contributions to the country’s football heritage.

The commendation came during a visit to the Minister’s office by the family of Rev. Osei Kofi, led by renowned sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah.

The delegation called on Hon. Adams to extend a formal invitation to an upcoming book launch dedicated to the life and career of the former Black Stars and Asante Kotoko maestro.

Hon. Kofi Adams used the occasion to reflect on the importance of preserving Ghana’s sporting history, asserting that “history not documented is history lost.” He emphasized that chronicling the achievements of pioneers like Rev. Osei Kofi is essential to ensuring that their legacy endures as a source of inspiration for generations to come.

Rev. Osei Kofi, widely known as “The Wizard Dribbler,” remains one of the most accomplished figures in Ghanaian football. His illustrious career includes being a pivotal member of the Black Stars squad that faced the legendary Real Madrid in 1962, as well as securing two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles.

According to author Fiifi Anaman, whose forthcoming book documents the footballer’s journey, Rev. Kofi stands as arguably the most accomplished Ghanaian footballer of all time.

Beyond his exploits on the pitch, the Minister highlighted Rev. Kofi’s deep sense of patriotism, noting that in an era when the commercial lure of sports was beginning to grow, the footballer famously turned down an offer of approximately £30,000 to play abroad. He chose instead to remain in Ghana, continuing to serve his country as a player, a father, and later as a Reverend Minister.

“In the days of Rev. Osei Kofi, the commercial aspect of sports did not overshadow nationalism,” Hon. Adams remarked. “His act of patriotism exemplifies the spirit of true sportsmanship and nationalism that Ghana must continue to uphold.”

The Minister further described Rev. Kofi’s career as an affirmation to dedication, excellence, and selfless service. He urged the countrt to move beyond occasional acknowledgments and adopt a consistent approach to honoring its legends by actively telling their stories and celebrating their contributions, both on and off the field.

Hon. Adams also called on young athletes to draw inspiration from Rev. Osei Kofi’s example, encouraging them to use sports as a vehicle to rekindle the spirit of nationalism and to embrace the values of discipline, integrity, and commitment.

“Rich experience is remarkable, as a footballer, a Reverend Minister, and a father,” Hon. Adams said. “Our youth must look to such figures not only for athletic excellence but for the character and values that uplift society.”

The tribute from Ghana’s Sports Minister reaffirms the enduring the importance f Rev. Osei Kofi’s legacy, one defined not only by sporting brilliance but by unwavering patriotism and a lifelong commitment to the country.
