Newly appointed Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach, Karim Zito, has made it clear that at this stage of the season, results matter more than stylish football.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of their next Ghana Premier League match, Zito stressed the importance of discipline, fitness, and a winning mindset.

I don’t joke with Thursday training,” Zito emphasized, underlining how critical the final preparations before matchdays are to his philosophy. “Thursday sessions are non-negotiable. It’s where we sharpen our finishing and build stamina for the challenges ahead.

The veteran coach, who secured a victory in his first match in charge against Aduana Stars, also stated bluntly that Kotoko’s priority is to collect points rather than impress with beautiful play.

We do not need good football now. At the moment, we only need to win,” Zito declared, reflecting the urgency surrounding the club’s push up the league table.

Kotoko currently sit fourth with 50 points after 29 matches, just behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars. Zito’s early focus on discipline, conditioning, and efficiency in front of goal appears aimed at ensuring Kotoko stay firmly in the title race during the crucial final stretch of the season.

Up next for the Porcupine Warriors is the biggest test yet, a “Super Clash” against bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium this coming Sunday. The encounter between Ghana’s two most successful clubs is the highlight of the Ghanaian football calendar, and this edition promises even more drama with so much at stake.

Hearts of Oak, despite their struggles this season, remain dangerous at home and will be eager to frustrate Kotoko’s resurgence. With pride, bragging rights, and crucial points on the line, Sunday’s showdown promises fireworks.
