Asante Kotoko brought an end to a troubling four-game winless streak with a composed and purposeful 2–0 victory over Eleven Wonders in Match Day 32 of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The result, sealed by two goals from youth products, marked one of the more encouraging afternoons of the club’s season.
Head coach Mohammed Hamza Obeng made the bold decision to hand opportunities to five players drawn from the club’s U-20 setup, the Young Porcupines with Lawson Kyei and Abu Adams named in the starting eleven and Takyi Addison, Bismark Ofori, and Anthony Kofi Duah introduced from the substitutes’ bench during the course of the match.
Kyei wasted no time in justifying his inclusion, breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute to give the Porcupines the lead they needed heading into the interval. The opener settled Kotoko’s nerves and set the tone for a controlled second half.
The seal of authority came on the hour mark through substitute Anthony Kofi Duah, who added the second goal in the 65th minute to put the result beyond doubt. Duah’s strike capped a disciplined team display and underlined the quality and confidence that the club’s youth system continues to produce.
All five young players impressed in the match, showing confidence and skill beyond their age and experience.
Coach Obeng has earned praise for trusting young players and giving them chances in important matches instead of relying only on experienced players. His approach shows he values both the club’s future and present success.
As the season nears its end, the five Young Porcupines Bismark Ofori, Lawson Kyei, Takyi Addison, Anthony Kofi Duah, and Abu Adams have strengthened their chances of becoming regular first-team players. Their strong display on Match Day 32 has given fans hope for even more from them in the coming weeks.
