Manchester City have secured their place in the FA Cup final for the fourth successive season, the finest sequence the club has produced in 155 years of competing in English football’s oldest knockout competition.

The achievement, sealed at Wembley Stadium, cements City’s status as the most dominant team in the modern FA Cup era and sets up yet another opportunity to add to their trophy cabinet in May.

The Citizens are one game away from doing the domestic cup double for the second time under Pep Guardiola.

This achievement surpasses every previous run in the club’s history, a history that stretches back to the Victorian era. City have now appeared in 14 FA Cup finals in total, converting seven of those occasions into title-winning triumphs.

Man City in the FA Cup since Pep Guardiola took charge in 2016/17:

Most wins (45)

Most goals (159)

Most clean sheets (28)

Most finals (5).

González Announces Himself With a Thunderbolt

The defining moment of the semi-final came courtesy of Nico González, whose extraordinary long-range effort proved both his individual quality and City’s capacity to produce moments of brilliance when the occasion demands it most. The midfielder struck the ball with  conviction from fully 30.1 yards, the longest-range goal scored by any Manchester City player across the entirety of the current season.

I was waiting for the chance, and I had it, so I gave it everything, I shot with everything and it went in!” Nico González — Post-match.

Nico González’s semi-final effort at Wembley is statistically the longest-range goal scored by a Manchester City player in the 2025–26 season.

A Record for the Ages

In the context of the club’s 155-year presence in the FA Cup, reaching four consecutive finals represents an unprecedented achievement. No previous generation of City players, not those of the 1950s era, nor the sides that appeared in successive finals across the 1960s and 1970s, managed to sustain a run of this length.

The FA Cup remains, for all its familiarity, one of football’s most unpredictable competitions.
