Liverpool Football Club has confirmed that Mohamed Salah will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season.

The announcement brings an end to the forward’s nine-year tenure at Anfield, a period the club has described as “remarkable.” Salah had signed a new contract in April of last year that was originally intended to keep him at the club until 2027, but an agreement has now been reached for his departure this summer.

In a statement released alongside the club’s confirmation, Salah addressed supporters directly through a video l, offering a personal farewell to the city and the fanbase that has defined his professional career.

“Hello everyone,” Salah began. “Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”

Reflecting on his time on Merseyside, the Egyptian international spoke of the profound connection he developed with the club and its supporters. “I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life,” he said. “Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.”

Salah acknowledged the shared journey of the past nine years, which saw him become one of the most prolific goalscorers in the club’s history while contributing to a period of sustained success. “We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life,” he added.

The forward extended his gratitude to those who accompanied him throughout his Anfield career. “I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present and to the fans… I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times, it’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.”

Concluding his message, Salah emphasised the enduring bond formed during his time on Merseyside. “Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”

Salah’s departure marks the end of an era for Liverpool, during which he established himself as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats and a central figure in the club’s modern history. He will continue to be available for selection for the remainder of the season as Liverpool compete in their remaining fixtures.
